1Pe 2:17 “Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.”
This is an expose’ on the biblical break down of kings; their station and who appoints them.
We are told 5 times in the Gospels to honor our father and mother, and one time to honor the Son. (Mat 15:4, Mat 19:19, Mar 7:10, Mark 10:19, Luke 18:20 & John 5:23)
In the rest of the New Testament, we’re told again, to honor our father and mother, to honor widows, to honor ALL people and lastly, we’re told to honor the king. (Eph 6:2, 1Tim 5:3, 1 Pet 2:17)
In the New Testament Greek the word Honor is G509 and it means: to estimate, fix the value for, or the value of something belonging to one’s self.
The 1st time we see the word KING used in the NT is in Mat 1:6 and it is referring to King David and the Davidic line leading up to Christ.
The 2nd time the word KING shows up is in Mat 2:1 and it is talking about Herod, a king appointed by the Roman Senate that was of the bloodline of the Edomites, the descendants of Esau, whom God hated.
The 3rd time the word KING is used it is Mat 2:2, when the wise men came from the East to Jerusalem saying “We have calculated that there has been born the king of the Jews, because we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
The 4th time the word KING is used is in Mat 2:3, when Herod the king, heard this report and was troubled, and all of Jerusalem with him.
Zedekiah was the twentieth and final King of Judah before the conquest of the kingdom by Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon. Zedekiah’s birth name was in Hebrew: מַתַּנְיָהוּ, Mattanyāhū, “Gift of God”; Greek: Μαθθανίας; Latin: Matthanias. His name was changed by Nebuchadnezzar II.
After the siege of Jerusalem in 597 BC, Nebuchadnezzar II removed king Jeconiah and installed the king’s uncle, Mattanyahu instead, changing his name to Zedekiah (2 Kings 24:17). The prophet Jeremiah was his authority, yet he did not heed the prophet and his epitaph reads: “he did evil in the sight of the Lord” (2 Kings 24:19–20; Jeremiah 52:2–3).
Zedekiah was the last appointed king of the bloodline of Judah of the Davidic line.
Jesus was born 500 years after the Babylonian captivity, so that means that from The last king of Judah, Zedekiah to Jesus, the, REAL King of the Judah, there was a 500 year gap of time. And Jesus was born 400 years after the last Old Testament prophet, Malachi. No prophet appeared after Malachi, until John the Baptist; leaving a gap equivalent to that of between the arrival of the Pilgrims until today.
So, fast forward 500 years and we have sitting in Judaea, ruling and reigning; a man that was appointed king NOT by God, and NOT anointed by a Priests, but by The Roman Senate. Let me give you a bit of insight on this king The Roman Senate chose to sit as ruler over Judaea.
Herod means “heroic” and it is the name of a royal family that flourished and lived among the Jews in the times of Christ and the Apostles. The Herodian Dynasty was of Idumaean descent, which means they were of Edomite descent. Edomites are the descendants of Edom, and Edom is what Esau’s name was changed to when he sold his birthright to Jacob. (Gen 25:30) So the bloodline of Esau, the Edomites, had taken over the throne of David and the seat of Moses from the people of Judah, the son of Jacob, and they are who were in power during the time of Jesus and the Apostles.
The Herodian Dynasty and later the Herodian Tetrarchy~
Herod the Great was the son of Antipater of Idumaea the Edomites. He was appointed king of Judaea in B.C. 40 by the Roman Senate at the suggestion of Antony and with the consent of Octavian. He at great length overcame the great opposition which the country made against him and took possession of the kingdom in B.C. 37; and after the battle of Actium, he was confirmed by Octavian. He was brave and skilled in war, but also extremely suspicious and cruel. Hence why he destroyed the entire royal family of Hasmonaeans, put to death many of the Jews that opposed his government, and proceeded to kill even his wife Mariamne of the Hasmonaean line and his two sons she had borne him. By these acts of bloodshed, and especially by his love and imitation of Roman customs and institutions and by the burdensome taxes imposed upon his subjects; he so alienated the Jewish people, that he was unable to regain their favour by his splendid restoration of the temple and other acts of impressive building. He died age 70 in the 37th year of his reign. Both John the Baptist and Jesus Christ were born during his reign and Matthew mentions that he commanded all the male children under two years of age in Bethlehem to be murdered.
Herod “Antipas”, was the son of Herod the Great and Malthace, a Samaritan woman. After the death of his father, he was appointed by the Romans as tetrarch of Galilee and Peraea. His first wife was the daughter of Aretas, king of Arabia; but he subsequently repudiated her and took to himself Herodias, the wife of his brother Herod Philip; and in consequence Aretas, his father-in-law, made war against him and conquered him. He cast John the Baptist into prison because John had rebuked him for this unlawful connection; and afterwards, at the instigation of Herodias, he ordered him to be beheaded. Induced by her, too, he went to Rome to obtain from the emperor the title of king. But in consequence of the accusations brought against him by Herod Agrippa I, Caligula banished him (A.D. 39) to Lugdunum in Gaul, where he seems to have died.
Herod Agrippa I was the son of Aristobulus and Berenice, and grandson of Herod the Great. After various changes in fortune, he gained the favour of Caligula and Claudius to such a degree that he gradually obtained the government of all of Palestine, with the title of king. He died at Caesarea, A.D. 44, at the age of 54, just after having ordered James the apostle, son of Zebedee, to be killed, and Peter to be thrown into prison: Act 12:21
Herod Agrippa II, son of Herod Agrippa I. When his father died he was just seventeen. In A.D. 48 he received from Claudius Caesar the government of Chalcis, with the right of appointing the Jewish high priests, together with the care and oversight of the temple at Jerusalem. Four years later Claudius took from him Chalcis and gave him instead a larger domain, of Batanaea, Trachonitis, and Gaulanitis, with the title of king. To those reigns Nero, in A.D. 53, added Tiberias and Taricheae and Peraean Julias, with fourteen neighboring villages. He is mentioned in Acts 25 and 26. In the Jewish war, although he tried in vain to restrain the fury of the seditious populace, he did not desert over to the Roman side. After the fall of Jerusalem, he was given a praetorian rank and kept the kingdom together until his death, which took place in the third year of the emperor Trajan when he was 73 years of old. He was the last representative of the Herodian dynasty.

So, as you can see by just this little bit of history; that the kings that ruled in the New Testament of the Bible were NOT ordained by God. The Bible clearly states that ALL kings of God are specifically to be from the Tribe of Judah, proceeding from the Davidic line. This is a biblical certainty, one of which cannot be denied or altered. Also, the kings appointed by God were to be anointed by the high priest of the tribe of Levi, and since the installment of Roman rule, they had appointed their own priests from non-Levitical bloodlines.
The entire established government and religious oversight for the Jewish people in Judaea were all appointed and chosen by the Roman Senate and NOT by God. I’d like to remind you that it was Herod that had John the Baptist beheaded; the 1st Prophet to show up on the scene since Malachi 400 years earlier.
This is how JESUS addressed Herod, and it wasn’t with honor:
Luke 13:31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto Him, Get out of here, and depart from this place: for Herod will kill you.
Luke 13:32 And He said to them “Go and tell that FOX, Look, I’m casting out devils and I’m performing healings, today and tomorrow and even on the third; until I’m finished.
Luke 13:33 Even if I have to journey today, and tomorrow to achieve it: because it is not permitted that a prophet be destroyed outside of Jerusalem.
Luke 13:34 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kills the prophets and stones those that are sent to you; how often I wanted to gather you together to Myself as children; as a hen does her own brood of birds under her wings, but you did not want that.
Luke 13:35 Behold, your house has been cast away and left desolate, and firmly I say to you, “You will certainly not SEE Me until I ARRIVE, and when you can say “Blessings be upon they that COME in the Name of the Lord.”
Remember, Jesus had to flee with his mother and father to Egypt because this man was killing all the boys 2 years and younger, out of his FEAR that the actual bloodline KING of the Jews would come into power. He had tried SO HARD to win the favor of the Jewish people with his reconstruction of the Temple and his other marvelous building accomplishments. It was all to no avail, and Herod knew all that the people needed was an actual HEIR of David from the Tribe of Judah to take the place as their king. This is why Herod is known for this massacre of children due to his tremendous fear.
By the way, the word FOX is only used in the Bible 2 times. I’ve shown you before, how every single word and recorded action of Jesus Christ, is the fulfillment of prophecy. Well, look: This is the 1st time the word FOX is used, it’s in Nehemiah.
Neh 4:3 Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him (Sanballat) and he said “Indeed, that which these people have built; if a FOX were to climb up/ascend upon it, he will breach those stone walls.
So, Jesus calling Herod a FOX was VERY PROPHETIC. Jesus was telling Herod that HE KNEW that he was the FOX that Nehemiah prophesied concerning; that would breach their fortified city.
Allow me to refresh your memories, by telling you that KINGS were not part of the ordained structure of how God established for the Children of Israel to be governed. It had always been, since the time of Melchizedek; when Abram gave him a tenth of the spoils of war amongst witnesses in the Valley of the Kings; that the Priests/Prophets were the HIGHEST form of authority in the land. It wasn’t until the Children of Israel asked Samuel their JUDGE/PROPHET to anoint for them a king that they could SEE, like the heathen nations that surrounded them, that kings were weaved into the story of Israel.
The first king God chose for the people was from the Tribe of Benjamin, the most precious of all the Tribes because since the selling off of Joseph to Egypt by Judah and his brothers, Benjamin became Jacob/Israel’s favorite son, considering he lost his beloved wife Rachel while giving birth to him. His name was Saul, which means “man’s desire or he who is desired” and his very first command from God he blew because he thought he could alter the instructions of the Lord in favor of future commerce with the people and provisions for his army. God told him specifically to not leave anyone or any animal alive among them.. I’m sure it had something to do with interbreeding and people fornicating and breeding with animals in order to make super soldiers. I mean, WHY else would the animals need to be destroyed? Anyways, SAUL proved to NOT be worthy to hold the throne as King on behalf of God and the Lord chose ANOTHER from the Tribe of Judah, from the house of Jesse, a 12 year old boy named David that tended to and protected his father’s flock whilst his brothers fought against the Philistines in King Saul’s army.
As I stated earlier in this expose’, the LAST bloodline king from the Davidic line of Judah was Zedekiah. The people that have taken occupancy time and again in the territory of Judaea are NOT actual JEWS.. Just like Jesus said.. “Those that SAY they are Jews but are NOT” Rev 2:9
The Gospel of Jesus Christ that is told to us in the New Testament, in NO WAY promotes the elevation of KINGS. It was the Church of England that convinced the world that the Bible promoted KINGS that were to reign in Christ’s stead upon the earth. It is NOT a biblical teaching. In FACT, it has been that very NON-Biblical teaching, that has empowered demonic bloodlines that are the ENEMIES of God to rule on behalf of their countries and churches. Our crowns are not of this world and they are not given by men or ordained by movements. They are incorruptible.
I will wrap this up with this final thought: God is NO respecter of men. Not popes, bishops or kings. The reason that every single one of the U.S. Presidents is related to King John is due to a little clause that’s in the Magna Carta. I suggest a bit of study on the matter.
I pray this article has got you thinking, and re-evaluating how you look at things.. Authorities appointed by men, and how KINGS were part of how things were to be governed in the Kingdom.. and His Kingdom is Coming, and it is HIS WILL that will be Done.. In Jesus Name. Lastly, the three unclean spirits that look like frogs; they go out to possess the KINGS of the earth to provoke them to WAR. Rev 16:13
