Jude 1:10 And these people speak blasphemies of great things they don’t understand: but rather what they understand naturally, and are like ignorant beasts in these corruptions.
Jude 1:11 Woe to them! because they have been taken the way of Cain, and spread forth the errors of Balaam for hired wages, and are destroyed in the rebellion of Korah.
Let’s examine the way of Cain that spreads forth the errors of Balaam for hired wages, shall we?
We will start off with examining the name, Cain= qayin H7014, which translates as: smiths or the forgers of metals in the KJV; but going a bit deeper in Hebrew we will find that, actually the word is the combination of two words that mean: to acquire H7069 and H7013 to make a fixed or permanent scar or mark; as with the quick thrusted jab of a spear. This is what Eve experiences when Cain murders her younger son Abel. She is pierced in her soul, just like the N.T. says, when Simeon the prophet tells Mary the mother of Jesus in Luke 2:35 “and their sword will pierce through your soul, but the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed through this.” The word used here for sword is rhomphaia in Greek, and it properly means: a long Thracian javelin, which is a spear. So, Cain’s name really means, acquired by the piercing of a spear or by the tip of a spear.
Now looking at the words qânâh H7069, which is one of two words we get the name Cain from, that means: to get, to acquire, to possess, to obtain or to purchase or procure, and the second word is qayin H7031, which means: a spear. We can, I believe all safely come to the conclusion that Cain’s name means: Acquired by the spear, or the wounding/piercing of a spear.
And now that we’ve gathered together a few facts to bring about a better understanding of the word Cain. Now we can use our NEW understanding and JOIN IT with observation, in other words, let’s examine Cain’s ways, to see if the name given to him, was a prophecy concerning him.
Gen 4:1 Adam knew Eve the woman and she conceived and bore Cain, saying I have acquired a man from the Lord.
Notice that it doesn’t say he was “named” Cain, it says “she conceived and bore, Cain” which could be translated as the description of her experience of the first childbirth ever, and not really his name at all, because as we’ve established; Cain means: acquired by the piercing of a spear, which honestly could be her describing the PAIN of childbirth, which WAS the repercussion of the woman eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, right? Let’s move on.
Next, I’d like to highlight is the word “knew” in verse 4:1. This is the very first time Adam (male and female) demonstrate the power of procreation. This is also why biblically the number 5 represents procreation; specifically the woman’s ability to bring forth seed, both good seed and bad seed. Even the verse number 4:1, equates to the number 5. (4+1=5). Something is “known” when flesh and blood come together in agreement, to bring about “knowledge” or the understanding of a thing. Just like it takes the witness of two for any matter to be “known”, as the Bible says. “Every matter shall be established by two or three witnesses”, or “If a prophet speaks, two or three must consider and agree”. It takes two components to bring about the “knowledge” of anything. It takes the joining together of two and the agreement of at least two, concerning what is produced, or the conclusion, so to speak. Again, it’s like the joining of your sight with your perception, or the joining of flesh with blood or the joining of our individual understanding to another’s understanding, to bring about an even larger and more expansive understanding, that continues to grow and spread out to become even more expansive. Just like the man and the woman were commanded by the Lord, when He told them “Be fruitful, and multiply”, and just like what we are doing as we put this information together to bring about a greater understanding. Understand? Good, let’s move on to the next verse.
Gen 4:2 And again bearing a brother Abel and Abel became the keeper of the flocks. Cain became the servant of the land.
Notice that there’s only ONE occurrence of conceiving in verse 1 and two occurrences of bearing, which means Cain and Abel were twin brothers, just like we see repeated throughout the O.T. to show us the contrast between peoples or nations. We needed TWO to be the contrast of one another, so we could understand. One came to be the keeper of the flocks (living souls), and the other became the servant of slave of the land. Land is a word used in Hebrew to represent the substance of the Earth. So, already, we can see the contrast between people in just this verse alone. One chose to tend to LIVING SOULS upon the earth, and the other chose to serve what he could acquire from the land, among the substances of the Earth; among that which yields its fruit for the wicked and the good, in their appointed times or seasons. The keepers of the flocks, care for the LIVES that give humans LIFE, as the animals do that provide humans with food, clothing and shelter to sustain their lives. The servants of the Land, work only for what that can be acquired or obtained, as the wages or the fruits of their labors.
Ger 4:3 It was after this time that it came to pass that Cain came forth with the fruit of the land as his offering unto the Lord.
We see here, that it’s after years had passed; and Cain decides to come before the Lord with an offering of the fruits of the land as a gift to Him. Which is a bit of a joke, when it’s really God that makes those fruits grow; by sending his rains in due season, or He could chose to withhold them as we see on numerous occasions. Man’s only real work, is to pull the weeds so to speak; to pluck out the adversaries that devour the field and corrupt it’s fruit, but it’s GOD that produces the fruit and causes it to grow. So, it’s a lame sacrifice, because it’s not a sacrifice at all.
Gen 4:4 And Abel also brought forth, from out the firstborn of his flock, from among his choicest. The Lord *looked upon Abel and his offering.
Abel means: breath, as in the breath of God lives within him and he brought forth as his gift to the Lord, from among the firstborn of the living souls, that he chose to tend and keep upon the Earth, and among his very best; and THIS was a looked upon by the Lord, as a sacrifice worth looking upon. Understand the difference? Of course you do. Let’s keep going.
Gen 4:5 But unto Cain and his offering; they were not *look upon and Cain was exceedingly angered and his countenance became fallen.
When Cain and his offering were not looked upon by the Lord, in Hebrew it says “he became exceedingly HEATED” as in inflamed with anger or enraged and his presence fell.” Meaning his spirit had changed before the Lord, due to jealousy, pride and anger about his brother Abel earning the attention from the Lord. These 3 sins, jealousy, pride and anger, when in agreement, bring forth the fruits of murder and death. They are the firstborn offspring of the FIRST rebellion against God. Mankind’s original sin. Again here, it took the ignorance of one and the pride of another to perform the first rebellion against a command of God, the 2nd command of God; the 1st being the command to Adam, to tend and keep all the living souls within the Garden enclosure. Adam allowing Eve to be deceived by the Serpent meant that he was not properly tending or keeping all the living souls in the Garden. This I believe was a sin committed of negligence, and not direct rebellion. However, Adam’s partaking in the “fruits” of Eve’s ignorance, was an act of willful rebellion. Let me explain: Eve was not created yet when the Lord God gave man the command to not eat of the Tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. What Eve knew of it, was only what Adam had told her, and we can see that she didn’t understand, by how she added “even if we touch it, we will die” to the command of “do not eat from” when replying to the Serpent’s tempting. I’m getting a bit ahead to the fall, but it’s because the verse above is the first time this word “fallen” is used in the Bible, its nâphal H5307 and it’s where we get the biblical word nephı̂yl/nephil or Nephilim in English, which basically translates as “the offspring or fruits of the fallen.”
Gen 4:6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you heated and why has your countenance fallen?
Gen 4:7 If it was good, would it have not been accepted? If it is not good, sin lies at the door of the desires to rule.
Gen 4:8 Cain did say this in his heart about Abel his brother, and it came to pass upon the land; Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.
Properly translated, this verse says that Cain said this in his heart, first, then it came to pass on the land, or in the natural realm. Sin starts in the mind, but it needs the agreement of our desires for it to be manifested in the natural.
These two words “Acquire”, as in what a man obtains and “Achieve”, as in what a man accomplishes; are at the very root of the “Ways of Cain”, and he will rise up to steal, kill and destroy whatever stands in the away of his desires to rule. Why does Cain desire to rule over his brethren? It’s because the Lord refused to look in Cain’s direction, therefore he FORCES the attention of men, for them to LOOK TOWARDS HIM, and not towards God, in retaliation and jealousy. Remember what Jesus told the Pharisees and the Teachers of the Law in John 8:43-45, titled “The Children of the Devil.”
“Do you know why, you do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you are unable to accept My message. You belong to your father; he is the devil that makes you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies. It’s because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me!”
Now, let me point out that the Devil spoken of here, or The Serpent or anything from the Darkness, had not COMMITTED murder, or lied to anyone until Cain rose up against his brother Abel. So the father Jesus is speaking of in this passage of Scripture has to be Cain. In fact, the Serpent spoke a fact to Eve. with the intent to conceal the overall Truth. We do indeed take on the mind of Christ, and we become like God when our eyes become opened and we are shown the difference between what’s good and what is evil. When we choose what is good, and we walk in agreement with His Message by the power of His Spirit; the Word says we are co-heirs with Christ and we sit with Him in heavenly places. Jesus was referring to Cain and his offspring that murder and lie to get what they want, because they feel it is their just reward. These offspring follow the Way of Cain, and spread forth the error of the false prophet Balaam, that ran greedily towards the rewards or the wages that could be paid to him. They choose to serve what they can Acquire and live for what they can Achieve.
These attributes give us a better understanding of the characteristics of those that choose the Way of Cain; and the ways of his offspring upon the Earth.
I pray this article has been as informative to you as it has been to me.
